Samuel Pantcheff
British Baritone Samuel Pantcheff studied with Glenville Hargreaves and Audrey Hyland at Royal Academy Opera, after graduating with Distinction from the Masters in Vocal Performance. In his first year of study, Samuel was awarded the Blythe-Buesst Opera Prize. Samuel now studies with Gary Coward and is a Britten-Pears Young Artist.
Recent operatic experience includes Leporello (HeadFirst Productions), Pulcino (BambinO; Scottish Opera; Royal Opera House, Muscat) Lumaca (The School of Jealousy; Bampton Classical Opera), Juan (Juliana; Nova Music), Sharpless (King's Head Theatre), Marco (Gianni Schicchi; Lez Azuriales), The King (Eight Songs for a Mad King; Saint Petersburg Philharmonia), Papageno (Pavilion Opera), Guglielmo (Pop-Up Opera), Baron Zeta (Ryedale Festival Opera), The Younger Gentleman (Exposition of a Picture; cond. Stephen Barlow), Aeneas (RAO), Zareskty/Captain (RAO), Fiorello (Cadogan Hall), Benedick (Much Ado About Nothing; C.V. Stanford), Pirate King (Opera Anywhere), Aeneas (Helios Collective), Ben (The Telephone; The Opera Box), and L'horloge comtoise/Le chat (L'enfant et les sortileges cond. Stéphane Denève; BBCSO). I sang the baritone roles in Alexander Goehr's music theatre Tryptich in Russia for the Russian premiere at the Mariinsky Theatre, and Ligeti's Nouvelles Aventures and Aventures at Saint Petersburg Philharmonia. Other operatic experience includes Masino (La vera costanza; RAO), Nardo (cover) in La finta giardiniera, Storm Wind (cover) in Rimksy-Korsakov’s Kaschei the Deathless, and Commercial/Legal Councillors (covers) in Intermezzo all for Buxton Festival Opera; Schaunard and Benoit/Alcindoro in La bohème, and Cadmus in Semele.
Current projects include my company debut for Diva Opera as Prince Yamadori (Madama Butterfly) and Haly (L'italiana in Algeri). Projects for the 2019/20 season include joining the International Opera Studio Gerard Mortier at the Salzburg Landestheater (roles to be announced).
Samuel is an experienced oratorio soloist and recitalist. 2018 saw him perform Bach Cantatas as a soloist with Sir John Eliot Gardiner in venues across Europe such as The Concertgebouw, Vienna Musikverein, Cologne Philharmonic, Bach Fest (Leipzig), and Barbican. Other concert highlights include bass solos in Purcell's Ode to Saint Cecilia with John Butt and the Dunedin Consort, Bach's Cantata BWV74 and BWV106 (‘Actus Tragicus’) for the RAM/Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series, and Handel's Messiah at the Linder Auditorium in Johannesburg with the Johannesburg Concert Orchestra. Samuel was a soloist on a tour of Israel with the Israel Camerata and Avner Biron, performing Bach’s St Matthew Passion.
Recital highlights include Schubert songs at St Martin-in-the-fields, London for the Royal Academy’s prestigious Song Circle, Schubert’s Winterreise, Schumann's Dichterliebe, a recital of Beethoven Songs, French Song recital at the Institut Francais, and two recitals for SONG IN THE CITY with Gavin Roberts.
